If an airline allows you on the plane to Indonesia and you have less than 6 months validity left, they are given a huge fine in Indonesia. Plus they have to transport you at their expense back to where you came from. I've heard the fines are between $5000 - 10,000 USD. If you did happen to get on the plane, then it is up to the Indonesia Immigration people to decide if they want to allow you entry but the airline will get fined regardless.

I'm from Canada but have a friend who flew Vancouver - HKG no problem but was denied boarding in HKG for the Bali flight as she only had 5 months on her passport. Big hassle as she had to get a new passport in HKG (not her home country) and had to wait 3 days.
