I wouldn't worry about changing money before you go UNLESS you really need to have a large amount of Rupiah as soon as you get off the plane.
Up to you of course.
I have always found the exchange rate to be better in Bali than at my Post Office.......and the minimum you can exchange is $200. This goes for Harvey World Travel and the like too.
The rate today in Bali is 8975Rp to $1AUD.
At the post office it is 8371Rp to $1AUD.
So for every $100 you exchange (with Aust Post for example) you are getting $7 less than if you exchanged it in Bali.
It doesn't sound like much, but if you add it up..........the post office are having a few Bintangs on you.
Have a great time.
