The link in the OP did not have that headline, it was "toxic cocktail sparks government warning".
But the point is, this incident could have happened in either Bali or Lombok. Not that long ago, local Balinese were dying from a bad batch of arak and it was reported in the Bali newspapers.
Many people do get Bali and Lombok confused, or think Lombok is Lembongan, and lots of people consider the Gilis part of Bali. Bad arak is served in all of these places, and in fact, many local youth in Bali purposely add methanol to arak so as to get drunk immediately. There are far less local youth who drink in Lombok (it being muslim) not saying none drink, just much less of it as it is not part of the culture. Most drinking in Lombok is done by Lombok Balinese. And expats. and pretty much all the arak is made by Balinese living in Lombok. All of that doesn't mean that one place is better or worse than the other. As I said, can happen on either island
