several partners in the origonal Rum Jungle Road Restaurant and bar. Moman was a partner and the cook and Chantelle had nothing to do with the place whatever. The most visible partner was Tom Waddell who was in the restaurant most of the day and the pool table at night.He is now back in WA. There was a nasty partnership disagreement around 2000 and the hotel was split in two.Some will recall the two receptions - Rum Jungle on the right and Kusnadi on the left.The story goes on to talk about the restaurant moving to Padma Utara but failed due to a lack of Australians - hello, no Australians in Padma Utara!
The road was built by the Kuta Palace hotel ( renamed Jayakarta when Pres Suharto asked that all properties have Indonesian names ) and it did run through jungle back in early 80's.
That was when the name must have been coined. The restaurant was named after the road not the other way around.
By 1987 when I first became involved in the area everyone referred to it as Rum Jungle though there were only one or two jungle type sections left - one of which became Bamboo Palace run by Irwin Weber until his suicide some ten years ago.
