Hi, We have just got back after 15 nights and none of us got sick. We travelled with a very large group of people at the beginning of our holiday (for a rugby tournament) and no one got sick. Towards the end of our holiday we had 9 friends in Bali and again no one sick...maybe your friends were un-lucky. Appart from not drinking the tap water no other procautions were taken.
We stayed in Kuta, Umalas, Gilli T and Tenang Benoa and ate at a wide verity of places.
Probably best to post where you are staying so people can recommend restaurants etc around that area.
Some people swear by Red cordial so you could take some over with you.
