Because it is close to the beaches and has some great restaurants.
We also love that it is far enuf out of Kuta to be out of the hussle and bussle.I must admit, after the bombings, we also felt much safer there, but that was only a personal decision.
We stay at either Jayakarta or Melasti Beach Resort. Both have good and bad points but the price per room is good. We are hardly in our rooms so it is no biggie if they are not 5*.
We like to walk into Kuta from both places after brekky then walk home along the beach. Excellent exercise + you see the sites you would miss if you used transport.
We stayed in the superior room at Jayakarta but our rellies stay in the privately owened appartments. Would choose the appartments over the superior room, hands down.
At MBR we stay in Deluxe rooms for under $100 per room for 2 people. We have just booked for May 2012 and got the deluxe rooms.
Lotz of excellent restaurants on Beach Road at Legian, so you can try a newby each night. Hope this helps..
