In February 2008, I watched trucks empty dirt into water logged rice paddies to build the new airport. The newspapers proclaimed that it would open in 2009, though I expressed my doubts then on the Lombok Lovers Forum.
It would be good, if international carriers other than Silk Air started flying to the new airport.
It would also be good, if the drainage was sorted out before the coming wet season. Jakarta Airport is sometimes cut off from the city because the freeway is flooded, it would be a pity if this brand new airport was also affected by flooding.
