I bring these back to Australia every time I return. If you declare you won't have any problem. My beers nuts are shelled and roasted though same with my coffee. Sorry to hear that you scored the Mr Jobsbody if you did have yours taken at customs, perhaps they were over zealous.
AQIS are vigilant on bringing items that may have seeds, lavae or insects, that's the stuff that can do the real damage.
