Always get enough Nasi Goreng (spice) sachets for making Nasi back home for a year. Get them from larger supermarkets and pay around 2 bob a pack. Easy to make an authentic tasting version in Oz using this stuff.
You can buy this in Aust, but is about $1.20 a go. Look for the Racik brand. With a few bits and pieces, and using basmati not jasmine rice, makes a good feed for 4 for about $4.
Also good is the peanut Sate paste. Just add warm water. You will get this for about 45c about the place. It is a square lump of brown firm paste in a box. Customs/AQS have no probs with it.
Always bring back 2 bottles of Bintang. Why? After about a month or so from returning, I chill them down and make them really dingen (indo for cold)give one to the wife, then we swig em down and remanisce for about 6 minutes.
