the gilis are not even remotely like Sanur or Legian. There are 3 small islands off the coast of Lombok known as the gilis. There are in fact 100's of gilis off lombok, but it is these 3 that are more well known. Of the 100's only a handful have somewhere for tourists to stay.
You will probably enjoy Gili Trawangan the most, it has the most in the way of tourist facilities. It is a beach bar/cafe type of place, and the main activities are snorkelling, diving, lazing on the beach, eating & drinking on the beach, or relaxing at your hotel. Gili T has a reputation as a party island, but honestly, it is not really that much of a party..for the most part, evenings are pretty quiet with the chance to kick on in one or two bars if you want. By comparison, on Gili Air and Gili Meno, everything closes at 10pm. There are a number of good establishments on Gili T, somewhere like Scallywags might suit you. But maybe also look on Trip Advisor for reviews of 4-5* places for more options. To get to the Gilis is easiest to go by fast boat from Bali, although that is dependent on the time of year. The water can be extremely rough in Jan/Feb so if you are going then, it is better to fly to Lombok and transfer to the Gilis from there.
