we have used Bali Buggies a couple of times, but the last one was a real concern. This is a little long-winded, but you need to understand what you are getting into.
We used a mix of Buggies and Quads because we had a large group, Buggies are fine, the quads, maybe not so safe, but be aware that there is little (if any) training and I would suggest their safety and first aid training is close to non-existent if you scratch the surface.
About 10 to 15 minutes after the start we had a woman who fell off the back of a quad going up a hill and the staff just stood around and looked, I had to do all of the first aid stuff, tell them what to do (get a van as close to the site of the accident as possible, Put a Towel around her neck to stabilise it, arrange transport to the BIMC, organise to get the rest of the party back to the compound, etc...). I found that the woman had her helmet on backwards (no checking by the staff prior to start obviously). As it turned out, there were no long term injuries, except a sore neck for a few weeks and a few scratches, but it could have been far worse.
I understand that when you do these types of tours/activities you accept that they may be risks associated with them, but there was obviously no plan if there is an accident and no first aid kit (evident on this occassion).
I wrote a report on what happened and sent it to the company, so hopefully they have taken heed of some of the issues experienced, but knowing Bali, you just never can tell. They refunded 50% of the money the party spent, but it was not about the fee, it was about the safety aspect and the response (or lack of it) to the accident when it happened.
Be prepared and do your own safety check, as well as carry a first aid pack. I would not use the quads, there is not enough protection if something goes wrong.
Sorry for the length of this, but fore-warned is fore-armed.
