as well, just by chance we picked that Thursday to go to Ubud, and our driver told us (4 women) that we must go to the ceremony and join in the celebrations. We all bought sarongs and joined in. I had never seen so many people in the streets of Udud ever! It was truly amazing.. definately a once in a life time experience as you said, so glad i was able to witness it...
