They are all the same, any phone shop or kiosk will do.

Mentari is as good as any for holiday use.

I do know many of the providers have a special prefix if you want to call long distance that saves you much money. Instead of rp10k per minute it is maybe 1k per minute.
That would be handy if you want him to call home now and then.

For examle, I use Simpati and the prefix 01017 gets you cheap international calls.

A basic sim will cost you about rp10-15k, and includes 5k time (pulsa). Very cheap.
