I usually do a few days there for some serious R&R. You get to stay in some very nice 5 star hotels on a lovely beach (one you can actually swim at), you can walk for miles along a pathway for your morning constitutional and you hardly get bothered by hawkers, but that said you can always find a lady for a massage or a few shirts when you feel like it. There is a lovely little village called Bualu which has nice restaurants and you can either walk there or the restaurants will organise cabs and the Bali Collection, more expensive but a lot cheaper than the hotels. Along the beach to the north is Tanjung Benoa a little fishing village port that is of some interest and all the water sports are there. Geger Beach to the south end is especially lovely for the beach too

If you are going with kids you might like to check out Club Med, if you're into that sort of thing. It is now top-rated on Trip Advisor. My kids loved it when they were tiny and even when they were teens they could just whip into Kuta for some action.
