I was quoted in US$ for my hotel and I purchased US$ cash to make the payment, as it was the cheapest option to do it. They weren't real keen to accept US$ cash payment, but they did.
Was kind of funny when they picked me up from the airport, took me to the hotel to check in and then thought that I would somehow happen to have just over Rp20 million on me to pay for the room.
I said US$ cash was what I had and then they wanted me to pay by credit card and hang onto the US$. Which of course would have meant converting to rupiah at a bad rate, then my bank converting rupiah to oz dollars at another bad rate. On a small amount it wouldn't bother me too much, but not for $2400.
In the end they agreed and just accepted the US$ notes.
