all hotels in Bali sell to their wholesalers in USD. as the USD is dropping at the moment, they are panicking and putting their rates up around 20-25%. this is silly, as they certainly dont drop them when its in their favour.

but i have to agree with Salty here. EVERYTHING has gone up in Bali lately. electricity, food, wages....its definitely not a cheap place to live any more.

so for you who has to spend a whopping AUD140 more over 2 weeks, i suggest you think about the big picture rather than the small one. i think you really would be pushed to find a hotel who has actually REDUCED their staff wages. the government has set a minimum wage, and this increases yearly. hotels have to pay this as an absolute minimum, but remember, staff do also get service charges on top of their salary.

AUD140 may be a days salary to you, but to a local, its a months worth.
