Well, I flew to Bali on 14th Aug, got there early hours on the tues. Had a few drinks at a bar i know the owners of (Spiders Bar). Next morning i hired a scooter, which was all good, used it a few times without an issue. Anyhow, went out later that night to Crusoes on Jl. Legian. At the time i got myself a bintang (as you do) and we all had to stand outside for 10mins while they sprayed for mosquitoes. Whilst standing there talking with the staff a tourist arrived on his scooter. I could tell from the moment he got off the bike he was after trouble! With that i proceeded back inside the bar and advised the staff not to let him in as he was looking for a fight, etc. This was all good, he never came in and left on his bike, or so i thought. I finished my beer and got on my scooter to go back to the hotel (Jl. Padma Utara). I got onto the beach road when all of a sudden the guy was behind me. Next thing i remember is being woken up off the road by a local who put me in a taxi back to the hotel and someone rode my scooter back for me (which was muchly appreciated). I ended up with some pretty bad grazing, etc on both legs, arms, face. and thats even with a helmet on! (oh, ALWAYS wear your helmet, it saved my life i reckon!)
Anyway, cost me about $150AUD to fix the bike and myself over something i didnt do. All in all, had a good trip considering. Just glad i had people i know there at the time.
I guess the moral of this is to always go out with someone else because you never know what can happen!
But please keep in mind, this was a tourist not a local, i have never had any issues AT ALL with the locals.
