I remember the year that ice cream first became widely available for the first time outside of Kuta anyway. In Lovina the cry was "We have ice cream. We have ice cream". The power was out in those days so often and for so long I decided not to risk it but waited until we got to Candi Dasa.
Not sure if it was just after this or just before but the cry was then "We have potatoes. We have potatoes". Now they have garlic mash with caramelized onion and a dribble of "jus" around the plate.
