We flew Jetstar via Darwin on the way. Not so bad with just a two hour layover in Darwin but again it's a long day compared with flying direct.
The wife of the couple we went with booked our flights and with my husbands consent "saved" us $400 by flying home via Singapore. The other husband and myself would rather have just flown straight home although I agree that $400 is not an insignificant saving!

We left the villa at 11am for a 1:50pm flight to Singapore, arriving in Singapore at 4:30pm, too late for the free city tours. Our flight to Melbourne left at 9 o'clck so it's really not that long once you get off the flight and then check in again. It may be an opportunity to spend a few days in Singapore.

Although a lovely airport, it is just an airport and while we managed to fill in our 3.5 hours i just wouldn't do it again. We arrived home at 6:30am the following morning and then had to wait 3/4 hour while they found some stairs that weren't broken so we could get off the plane!

My sister in comparison flew Virgin and left at 10.30pm and arrived home before us and was on her way home before we got off our plane!!
She had a whole extra day in Bali! (She booked a room for the day at Adika Sari as they wanted an extra $150 for late check out at the villa.
