Others though who have first hand info, having stayed there, may have differing views.
As far as your son & gf are concerned, may I suggest either the Bali Pearl or Puri Damai, otherwise the Puri Raja or Bali Yarravilas. Wherever they stay, they should consider booking soon since they are going in peak season.
