I usually just hire a scooter for while i'm there. I find its easy enough to get around and you can go straight past all the cars, etc. Just go with the flow and you should be fine :)
All in all, just remember you're on holiday. If its taking too long in a taxi, just get out and stop into a bar for a drink, etc. :)
