I took some money raised by my students and some stationery to a small orphanage called Yayasan Kasih Penduli Anak - it is a place where Bali street kids are looked after and educated. Many of them were previously taken by their impoverished parents to Kuta to beg and sell wristbands and some have had an extremely difficult life and no schooling for years. The kids do art, dancing and English lessons to name a few things. We did a small art activity with the kids and it looks like a great place to support. The beautiful paintings they have done have been printed into greeting cards and they also have a calendar for sale with their stories and pictures on. The cards were about $1.50 I think. Someone has also given them a lot of clothing and jewellery etc which is for sale at very low prices. Some of the kids are not yet able to leave the streets and they get some lessons on a tarp at the beach and in the slums. (Cared-child@ykpa.org)I have phone numbers and leaving email open.
