After going to Bali many, many times, Personally like anywhere, I think there is a really nice side to Bali and a not so nice (not the people). Take him to some nice places & resturants (try some of the other hotels, they are good) for the first few days, take a trip over to Nusa Dua, its beautiful, lovely,clean,great resturants at Bali Collection shopping Centre, then you can introduce him to the markets, hustle and bustle, hopfully his opinion will be positive before then. If he doesn't want to get into the fully swing of Bali, let him laze by the ppol with a beer.
My hubby doesn't like Kuta/Legian at all and won't go there, so we sometimes stay Sth Kuta/Tuban (I can safely go and do my own thing) and then we head Nusa Dua for the peace and quite he desires.
