the requirements differ from consulate to consulate or embassy to embassy.. In some parts of the world you also have to provide bank statements. The best bet is to find out what is needed by the consulate/embassy where you are applying and then do what they ask.
In South Australia you can either apply via the Sydney Consulate or the Canberra Embassy, it is up to you.
