I havent actually stayed there but we were there a month ago and went past several times both from the road side way and riding along the beach front path which goes by the Mercure. I thought it looked lovely and to me its in a great spot. Not far from there (walking) are lovely restaurants such as Gardenia, Fortune Cookie amongst others and along the beach front we found a great warung where you could get lovely fresh fish cooked (Jack Fish it was called). The people from there were wonderful and they will even set up a beach dinner for you! Also out the front is lots of water sports such as jet ski, paraflying, traditional boat etc. I read they have a room with kids bunks or something maybe that would suit. I dont know anything about the other property though, sorry.
