In May, I saw:

Really cheap sarongs - ground floor Hardys (Sanur) for approx 18,000.

Better quality sarongs - same place for approx 120,000.

I thought the lengths of material in a shop at Tanah Lot seemed to be of good quality and design and bought two here for approx 60,000 each. (Not the traditional "sarong" with tassles or coconut buckles), just plain lengths of material.

A trained eye would be able to tell if a piece of material is true Batik, however failing this skill, there are Batik factories, which your driver would be able to take you to.

We visited such a factory (big tourist place) and found the prices higher here. Sorry cant remember the actual cost, but at least you would be assured of the real thing.

Hope this helps and good luck with it all :)
