Just returned from 3 week business and pleasure trip. I paid a bit too much for my hotels, as I wanted internet at all hours, however, even when they advertise that they have it, usually you have to go down to lobby and work in public, un-airconditioned place. Often connection was shaky. In the end I ended up in Internet Restaurants anyway. Also more fun for meeting other people that way. I Loved the Crystal Place beach hut for live music and one of the few places I could get a reasonably priced glass of wine -- decent wine -- It's just north of Jl. double six. That stretch of beach has a lot of good restaurants ... lots of hot late night parties too. I worked with a lot of different drivers, but the best was a man called Putu 0361 7946879. Honest, prompt, really on the ball. When I was having trouble finding a decent tailor, he got on the phone and next thing you know ... just one example of his helpfulness. I am from Canada, and they told me here I could just buy a new sym card for my phone and it would work there, not true for Canada, Virgin. I ended up buying a cell phone there, it was only $35.00 and I just gave it to someone when I left. Two real highlights of my trip: Jazz club in Ubud named Coffee and Silver. The 25 kilo all downhill bike tour. I used Eco Tours which is the original bike tour co. there. They were very professional, organized, and had good quality bikes. Have fun, and double your time in Ubud.
