Just back from staying at a homestay for 4 days, in the ricefields, a little bit of the real bali.
its the end of our 1st of a 4 week stay, trip no 9, we are in our 50's anl live in vic.
The owner wayan, his wife, kids and sister treated us like family.
Wayan is a good man. Had a wife and baby at home, and a 10yo diving business when the bali bomb exploded. No tourists came for 2 years so the business went broke. He worked 2 jobs for a year, plus managed his farm and fledgling homestay, till he repaid his loans. Then he started an internet embroidery business, which now keeps him, his family, and many villagers busy. He has all he needs now, so sponsors poor schoolkids and supports friends with their new businesses.
He believes that humans are ruining the world, and he is doing his best to make life better for many. Phew!

The food we ate was beautiful - very spicy - we are only the 2nd guests to love chili! We walked, swam, had a massage, motorbike ride, and a day's touring to local attractions. We dressed in ceremonial clothes. I put in an order for cushions. Next time I hope too many others haven't discovered them and we can stay longer!
Now we are in sanur, waiting for frinds to arrive from torquay and ready for another week of wonderful experiences.
