Hi Mic and Deb...
I was pleasantly surprised when we got to see the Villa, took a few phone calls and emails but got there in the end! I'll give you a general ‘overview' of White Pavilion ... I generally thought that the pictures that you can see on the internet are quite a true reflection of the Villa in ‘real life'.
The pool is bigger than I had thought it would be and at 1pm, when we were there is was in half shade. There are shallow, semi-circle areas at each end and the main part of the pool seemed reasonably deep. There is quite abit of grassed area and the lounge is basic but functional. There is a TV, DVD and surround sound system.
The kitchen is big, with a water dispenser and we looked through all the cupboards and is well equipped - no microwave but no ‘biggy'. There is a bedroom with glass sliding doors that opens onto the lounge/living area; this bedroom is quite big with a desk or table with a TV and then a large bathroom with bath and separate shower. There is another bedroom downstairs (no TV) off the living area that is smaller but also with a bathroom, no bath but an open air shower. Upstairs is a very big bedroom with a flat screen TV, DVD and surround sound. There is another large bedroom attached to this and can be closed off with sliding doors - upstairs would be perfect for a family with two kids. The stairs are fine and the balustrade, in parts, has been blocked off with frosted glass, so makes it alot safer if you have smaller children.
There were two guys there attending to the swimming pool and two ‘house' girls - one was Ibu. I asked if they cook for the guests, if we supplied the ingredients but they said that someone else comes in to do cooking, if you require it.
Now, as far as the gate that goes out to Melati Beach Apartments/The Coffee Shop, when we went searching in the evening for W.Pav we bumped into the owner of the little losman that is right near that gate and she said that we get a key to it when you stay at the Villa ... however, when I asked the W.Pav girls they said 'No,that gate is *always* locked!'. I think a trip to Ace Hardware and a replacement padlock might happen when we stay ;) It would be very inconvenient having to walk back up that long gang to go anywhere. Deb, did you access the Villa from a gang almost at the top of Rum Jungle Road, about 25-ish metres for Jln Legian? There was a stone carved ‘White Pavilion' sign. Is there any other way besides that gang and the locked gate to get to the Villa? Someone has mentioned a gate at the back of The Courtyard Hotel!?!
So all-in-all, I am very happy with our choice to stay at White Pavilion in October. For the price we are paying and the location, it is a winner. I have read on another forum that the staff 'don't do much' i.e.: dishes and clean up but hey, I don't mind (and the hubby, every now and then!) washing dishes. If you were to rent a holiday house ‘down south' or anywhere in Australia, it would not come with ‘House Help' and would certainly cost alot more than what we are paying :)
Please ask any more questions, if you have some ... like I have said in the past, each to their own and for what we need this Villa for, it will be more than adequate!
