We have stayed in resorts & villas,both have plenty to offer. If your friends are "Bali Virgins" then maybe a resort is the way to go? If you have a group of friends or family, a villa can be perfect as you have a dining, lounge area etc, where you can get together, you can also have Balinese friends over for a visit & even maybe cook a meal together. You usually also have a pool which is so relaxing when you know it is only for your use & if you like to have a night cap & a dip, it is totally up to you
