Did this trip last November and it was great. MAS are a full service airline and we had no problems at all. The leg room in economy was surprisingly good and we got a very good price. You have to fly via Kuala Lumpar both ways but this was okay for us as we wanted to avoid the dreaded night flight out of Bali with two young children. Going via KL meant we could basically organise day flights all the way. We also organised a stop-over in KL on the way back but we wouldn't do that again (maybe do it on the way over). After 2 weeks in a fantastic villa in Seminyak, a hotel room just didn't cut it at all. I'm sure you'll enjoy it but just remember that Syd/KL is a long flight (8 hours at least) and if you go straight onto Bali from there you have another 2.5 hours. You actually fly over Bali on the way to KL. Now that our kids are a bit older we'll probably go direct next time.
