All i can recommend is give it a go on scooters. Most roads are ok to bike on. I wouldn't travel the West coast road, but it was Sunday and very quiet so we gave it a go and five of us were very experienced riders. Once you get out of the main area most roads are quiet but you need to have a very experienced rider out front. Our front rider nearly got run of the road by a truck but his experience helped him get round it.
My third ride round the island but my 48th trip to Bali. We used a guide for one section just so as we wouldn't get lost and cause some of the less experienced riders any concern.
