I always ask first
The booths are there probably for those that do not want to sit at a cafe & order a coffee or food
Other booths are located in areas where there is no access to shops/cafes eg departure area
I find the little dome type booths even more bizarre
Open sections to let air in & the smoke out
Like having a smoke while being crammed in a telephone booth with several strangers
