We often get snakes in our garden too. My husband is terrified of snakes and always says they are dangerous whatever they are but the most common green ones in the shrubs the rest of the locals say are not dangerous but if they have a red tail then they are. We had a brown one in the garden the other day was curious if that one might be poisonous or not - managed to get a photo of it before it took off behind the house will check it out on that website.
