When we got there, rooms on our level were being reno'd and they'd finished them by the time we left. One week! They were pretty quick. There's also a complete new wing which is close to the pool, you'd have to look up or email the hotel and ask what the rooms are to see if you can get them, they were closest to the pool that I could see. Though doesn't really matter where you stay, all about same same distance to pool.
I love staying at the Bali Garden, it's absolutely beautiful. We actually had a room that faced the old cemetary next door, though you couldn't see in it for the trees and stuff, and to be honest, it didn't bother me at all. We actually asked for that side as it's very peaceful and you can keep your blinds open all the time with no fear anyone can perv on you. hahaha.
I usually always sit around the pool, but this year sat on the beach chairs under the umbrellas this year. Loved it. Though with kids it would be no good, as no where for them to swim supervised.
Enjoy your stay, I am sure you will love it. Don't take too much notice of bad reports, you make it what you want to make it..
