I tend to just wander around Monkey Forest Rd, Jl Hanoman & Jl Dewi Sita & check out places that take my fancy. The Markets are best late afternoon when the tour buses have left. I love the green banana leaf ceramic dishes & always buy a few. Lunch at Tropical Bale (opposite the Neka Art Museum - well worth a visit) has excellent food & sells lovely glassware.
There are some nice clothes shops at the end of M F Rd. I am sure you'll find plenty of interesting places. Jewellery is nice in Ubud - you could do a half day silver course at Studio Perak & make yourself a ring.
