I had a little drama with this last weekend.Going to Bali via Darwin you just hangout in the Transit lounge at Darwin (aka hell)your bags go straight through.
On return you have to go through customs in Darwin so yes grab bags and re checkin. (for us a 1 hour wait between getting bags and checkin opened)
Our problem was with duty free.
We purchased duty free grog in Cairns to be picked up on our return.But because we cleared customs in Darwin we were not eligible to get duty free in Cairns. If we bought duty free grog in Darwin it would have been subject to the LAGs(liquids and gasses) rule and not allowed to be carried on. Someone told me there is a way to do this but I can't find it.
I would love to hear how to get around this if anyone knows. Thanks
