Our family of 4 stayed at the Mercure Kuta for the first 4nights of our holiday last January, before moving on to the Novotel Benoa. (We had booked both Accor hotels as a result of an Accor sale).
Hotel Mercure Kuta:
We booked 2 sea view rooms, side by side (no interconnecting). They were located on the floor just below roof level. The rooms were an adequate size. You enter the room with the wardrobe on your left & the bathroom on your right. The bathroom has complimentary hotel supplies & 2 narrow saloon type doors that do not close enough to allow complete privacy. The shower was located over the bath. There are then a couple of narrow steps from the small entry foyer up to the room proper. Our room had a comfortable king bed, whilst our teens had 2 singles. There was a small balcony off each room facing Kuta Beach. It was an interesting outlook seeing all of the activity on the road & beach in front.
I noted on TripAdvisor there were many comments regarding the smallness of the room. I believe these are probably the standard rooms.
There is an infinity pool located on the rooftop. It really is quite a gorgeous position up there. There are also areas either side of the pool with seating & cabanas. My husband & I would sometimes sit up there of an evening with a glass of wine, observing the lights & night activity below.
I cannot comment on the restaurant or breakfast, since we ate out.
Surprisingly, I found the position of the Mercure absolutely fabulous. It was so convenient for shopping... just walking distance to Matahari, Discovery Mall & so many shops inbetween. It was also a stones throw from Poppies Lanes where I used a tailor & had several 'cheap as chips' meals. Easy walking distance to Legian too & a great spot for early morning beach walks.
The rooms are a little dated & probably not worth the full rate charged in my opinion, but for the price we paid, we were very satisfied.
Hope you have a great time & my ramblings have been of some benefit.
