..its not unusual, its often cheaper to buy australian grown produce in the UK than it is in Aus. Same goes for New Zealand grown produce.
Also, whilst travelling in NZ, i worked at apple, pear and kiwi fruit companies. The higher graded product, was selected for export.
So, not only are you paying more, despite it travelling a lot less distance, in some cases, you are also receiving the inferior product.
