Mic is right...do check their water supply and in particular the electric wattage.

I bought a washing machine for an Orphanage in Mengwi (45 minutes drive from Kuta) and it took three months and extra money to upgrade the electricity supply.

A friend bought a refrigerator for a Balinese family without asking them. Had it delivered up two flights of stair It is currently being used as a food cupboard that keeps the rats out. (they dont eat cold food, nor can they afford their rent let alone electric costs.) It was a GREAT idea at the time and with all good western intentions.
