They have prepared piles of change ready to give to anyone paying with AUD$. It may take 1-2 seconds less to pay with US$, so really isn't worth noting.
I've always paid with AUD$ for 1-3 people at a time and it's always been a case of handing over my cash and getting back the visa receipt(s) and change. They have to give you the receipt anyway, so it really didn't take any longer that I could see.
