Many people have judged the book by it's cover about the place itself, the people who stay there or the location, just as you did.
We have found the location to suit us nicely, for bike rides or walks to the beach, Legian St, Poppies 1 and 2 and Kuta Square.
The range of restaurants is great too, from Poppies, Uns, Kori to Tom Yum, Basil Leaves, Gong Corner, Secret Garden and now Seafood Corner.
Glad you enjoyed it there, especially as a "convert".
Reference to "which way to walk" a basic guide is:-
to the left to Poppies 2, to the right to Poppies 1 and straight ahead (round dogleg) to Legian St......you will know all these by now!!
Each no more than 5 minutes.
