for our year 8 & 9 kids so it depends on the school, although the headmaster told us that all highschools are free in Indonesia and we have looked at changing highschools for one of our girls and it was free still at the 4 we approached (just books and uniforms). We were told that there are schools that you pay "fees" for but that's if you want them to go to special schools such as the tourism ones etc. Haven't had this conversation with many parents and have only one friend who's boy is in year 10 and he has a small fee to cover the Japanese classes.
Where are you located? Because it is not across Bali and I can assure you.
