A few weeks ago i had a guest fall from the 4th floor balcony of his hotel to the ground. he is lucky to be alive. thank goodness for travel insurance or he would have been in serious debt.
at the same time, i had a guest on a horse. another horse came alongside, and kicked the guest in the leg - snapping it in half. the operation alone cost around USD15,000, plus the hospital stay, upgrade to business class seating on the way home, extended stay etc.
a while ago i had a guest slip over whilst in a hotel. he spent a week in hospital and was flown out by lear jet. the cost of the jet alone was USD80-100,000.
another guest, on his second day in Bali, slipped on a step and broke his leg in two places. he had to have an operation, spend his whole stay in hospital (at USD550 per day) and was upgraded to business for the trip home.
So, should you buy insurance? its up to you.
if you can afford to pay cash (or extend your house mortgage) for treatment that you may need whilst here, then dont bother with it.
if you want to save yourself the hassle of getting thousands of dollars over to you whilst in Bali, then i would advise you to get it for sure.
