don't like dealing with travellers cheques. The rate is about 200rp lower per $A. Your are also required to present your passport. Some will accept a copy of passport but most want the original. I would be more concerned about carrying my passport around than an ATM card. ATM rates are pretty good & sometimes better than money changer.
