is not necessarily a small thing and if your mum is 79, only makes matters worse. I've just had toe nail surgery and was told to keep my leg raised for 24 hours and to be vigilant about it. 5 weeks on and my toe still hurts when pressure is put on it and is still a way from healing. I'm so sorry for your mum's trauma and would advise that she reports this accident through her travel insurance just in case things get worse.
If she has any circulation problems, this injury may trigger off other complications so tell her to be careful and seek treatment if it doesn't get better or the pain endures. Maybe the insurance company will have some advice too.
