If I am running low on Rupiah but only need a smallish amount, I always have a $20 note to exchange, albeit at a lower rate, on my last day.
Otherwise, the rate is better for $50s & $100s. You will see hotel staff changing $5 notes (tips) occasionally but it's a service most money changers do for the locals.
