We went in 2001 for a week and despite our Hotel being really nice, we felt that there was really nothing to do! We felt it was more a weekend escape for Singaporeans and you are in a secured compound at the top of the island. Not a very good feel about this place at all! We ventured out of the compound on a day trip around to other parts of the isalnd and for the first time ever I felt quite unsafe, a few unsavory individuals and events. We have travelled all over the world and have never felt this before. But don't get me wrong. if you just want to laze around the Pool and eat in every night at yours or another Hotel it will be fine. However we felt there was a total lack of choice, it's not like Bali, Phuket, Fiji or any other similar tourist locale, where you can choose where to go, in Bintan youre locked in and have a limited choice!!
