different experiences isn't it. I've travelled with young children over the last 5 years 3 or 4 x a year and never had an issue but obviously others have had problems.
I think it comes down to whoever on the scanner screen at the time!
Better plan ahead tho as it sounds like there's a fair chance it may be removed : )
