full agree with you Garyd especially about the safety footware, living here I have seen many tourists having scrapes and scars for minor things on bikes, when they don't even ride in their own country. The only time I had problems with police was when I changed my front no,plate to a nice looking one but is illegal as has not got a proper stamp on it, so also be careful when hiring that plates have not been changed, I do find it hard to believe Rp 20,000/day as normal prices these days vary frrom 35,000- 50,ooo with insurance but remember that means nothing if you have an accident or hurt yourself and you do not have drivers licence in your state at home your travel insurance will not pay for it.
